Neatly done. Last time I tried this, my tripod loosened, and the whole thing went about 0,2 mm down on a side. You can imagine what I felt when I tried to put the images together...

Well, if everything works, it can be marvellous. Especially in your country, I mean in the Alps where the light pollution is a bit lower. I'd try it at Soca valley, Slovenia... Been there few times, and in a rather narrow valley (cca. 800 m wide), between mountains of 1500 m relative height there was unbelievable sky – I never saw so many stars, not even in the Sahara. There would be great to shot some startrails...

yeah, true that! in some parts of my country it would be excellent for shooting startrails, but i live next to vienna, far away from any mountains, unfortunately.
maybe on one of my next holidays there... hope to see some of your tries in the near future!

Oh, I didn't go too deep in it, but here is an image that I could save from that session. Not exactly a startrail, but you can imagine what we intended to shoot...

danke!
freut mich wenn das bild gefällt! ;)

Nice for a first attempt.

One of the drawback of using wider angles is it requires longer shooting sessions due to the extended shutter durations or increased number of shots required. I have a few star-trails in the-dude-l-bug.deviantart.com/…

There's a lot more trails in my "30sec of 32mins" shot at 100mm than there are in my "8hrs of an August Night" taken at 24mm, yet there's only 2 exposures difference between them.

The latter has the cool spiral looks because as it's polar aligned to Polaris.

thx for your comment! i read a lot of it before my first session and i hope to get a better one next time with an ultra wide angle and eeenough time... and yes, it looks way better when it's aligned to polaris!

I've found that having my laptop with me is the best way to control the camera for Astrophotography,

but if that isn't possible, your next best option is the Canon TC-80N3 multifunction remote...

It's very helpful for star-trails.

thx for the info, i work with the hähnel giga t pro II. that makes it a lot easier but although photography of startrails needs a lot of time.
but it makes a lot of fun anyway, so...

hmmm, trails of stars... :D ;) if you expose for a long time or take about 100 photos, like i did,  the stars look like falling stars.
hope you know what i mean. :D

Wie klein die Welt doch ist - von den Traismauer "Weinbergen" hat man auch einen guten Blick dorthin. :)
